Understanding Ineligible Runs
Ineligible runs occur when a dog competes in a class level before meeting the eligibility requirements for that class. While the run itself may still appear in the dog’s event history, any points or qualifying scores earned during an ineligible run do not count toward titles, Annual Rankings, Lifetime Points, rankings, awards, or other point-based statistics.
Common Reasons a Run May Be Ineligible
1. The dog has not yet earned the required lower-level title
Dogs must complete the required title before becoming eligible to earn points at the next level.
Example:
A dog has earned 75 LI-I points but has not yet completed the requirements for the LI-I title. The dog then competes in LI-II.
Because the LI-I title had not yet been earned, the LI-II runs are considered ineligible and the LI-II points do not count.
Note: Points earned before the title run has completed may display as ineligible until the title run completes.
2. The dog competed in the higher-level class before the required title was officially earned
Eligibility is based on the date the required title was earned, not when the exhibitor intended to move up.
Example:
A dog earned the UL-I title on 07/01/2025 but competed in UL-II on 06/28/2025.
Because the dog had not yet officially earned UL-I on the date of the UL-II run, the UL-II run is considered ineligible.
Important Notes About Advancing Early
Advancing a dog to the next level before a title has officially been earned is done at the exhibitor’s discretion and carries some inherent risk.
Best practice is to:
- Review the host club’s posted results at the event
- Confirm results are accurately displayed in the dog’s NASDA account
- Wait until the required title has officially been earned before entering the next level
Exhibitors are not required to move up immediately after earning a title, and many exhibitors choose to complete one or two additional runs at the lower level as “safety points” before advancing.
Why This Happens
Ineligible runs are most commonly caused by:
- Errors in event results submitted by the host club
- Entering future events before titles are officially processed
- Competing at a higher level based on expected results rather than confirmed title completion
NASDA systems automatically review run eligibility based on:
- Required prerequisite titles
- Title earned dates
- Event dates
- Point progression rules
If a run is determined to be ineligible, the points from that run will not apply toward:
- Titles
- Annual Rankings
- Lifetime Points
- Breed rankings
- Invitational qualification statistics
- Awards
- Other point-based statistics or reports
