Breed Recognition

NASDA recognizes breeds from several major kennel clubs and organizations, ensuring a wide range of dogs can compete. The recognized registries include:

  • American Kennel Club (AKC) – Including Foundation Stock Service (FSS) breeds
  • Canadian Kennel Club (CKC)
  • Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI)
  • United Kennel Club (UKC)

Consideration of Additional Registries

NASDA may also consider other breed registries on a case-by-case basis, based on factors such as:

  • The length of time the registry has recognized a breed
  • The existence of well-defined breed standards
  • The registry’s reputation and credibility

Did you know? As of March 1, 2025 NASDA recognizes 290 unique breeds as well as mixed breeds.
