Understanding Shed Dog Online Titles
A. How Shed Dog Online Titles Work
✅ Online searches follow standard NASDA Shed Dog rules (see the NASDA Master Handbook for scoring and deductions).
✅ Points earned combine with in-person results to earn Shed Dog I & Shed Dog II titles.
✅ Handlers can train at their own pace and submit video runs for evaluation.
B. Shed Dog Title Progression
- Shed Dog I (SD-I) – Introductory level for shed hunting dogs.
- Shed Dog II (SD-II) – Advanced level requiring increased search difficulty.
2. Preparing and Selecting the Shed Hide
A. Types of Acceptable Shed Antlers
✅ Whitetail deer sheds are preferred.
✅ Antler portions from elk, antelope, moose, or other regionally appropriate ungulates may be used.
✅ Antlers must be retrievable by dogs of various sizes.
🚫 Unacceptable Sheds:
- Artificial or plastic antlers.
- Broken or heavily damaged antlers.
- Antlers that are too large for most dogs to retrieve.
B. Proper Scenting of the Shed Hide
- The shed must be freshly treated with artificial shed odor before each test.
- Wax-based or semi-solid scenting products are preferred over liquid scents.
- Sheds must not have a scent trail leading to them—they are thrown into the search area.
