How are runs scored at the Regional?

All dogs at the Regional are scored based on Championship scoring rules and general NASDA rules, regardless of the level in which they qualified.
Scoring at the NASDA Regional is based on deductions, the number of finds (for applicable classes), and time of completion. However, at this level of competition, failure to complete the course within time does not automatically result in disqualification. Teams demonstrating exceptional teamwork and sportsmanship may still qualify and advance based on the overall scoring criteria.
Scoring Priorities (Single Hide Searches)
- Fewest deductions – Teams with the lowest number of deductions place higher.
- Type of deductions – If deductions are equal, the type and severity of deductions are considered.
- Time of completion – If deductions and severity are the same, the team with the fastest time ranks higher.
Scoring Priorities (Multiple Hide Searches – Lost Item, Shed Dog, etc.)
- Fewest deductions – Teams with the lowest number of deductions place higher.
- Greatest number of finds – If deductions are equal, teams with more successful finds rank higher.
- Type of deductions – If deductions and finds are the same, the type and severity of deductions are considered.
- Time of completion – If all else is equal, the team with the fastest time places higher.
Note: At this level, strong performance, good teamwork, and sportsmanship are valued. Even if a team does not finish within time, they may still qualify and advance based on their overall performance. Sportsmanship is a key and scored component of the Versatility Championship.
