To Our Valued NASDA Exhibitors,
We want to take a moment to address an important topic that has surfaced leading up to the 2025 NASDA Canadian Regional Championship.
Over the past several hours, concerns have been raised about the eligibility of second dogs handled by the same exhibitor during Championship-level events. We understand this has caused confusion and frustration for some, and we appreciate the opportunity to clarify NASDA’s long-standing rules and policies.
NASDA Championship events follow a clearly defined policy:
A handler may only handle one dog per course.
Exhibitors are welcome to enter multiple dogs, but each must have a separate handler.
If a handler chooses to run more than one dog on the same course, the additional dog(s) must be run For Exhibition Only (FEO)—what some may refer to as the “B stream.”
FEO entries (B stream) are not eligible for placements, awards, or advancement at the Regional Championship. This rule has been in place since the first NASDA Championship and was reaffirmed in a public clarification published in February 2024. The goal of this policy is to ensure fairness, consistency, and integrity across all NASDA championship-level events.
We recognize that some information shared through third-party platforms may have been interpreted differently, and for that, we are sympathetic. To help resolve this situation with fairness and respect for all exhibitors:
✅ Exhibitors who did not clearly understand that their second dog would run FEO (B stream) and therefore be ineligible for Regional Championship awards may request a refund for that specific entry if they choose to withdraw the second dog.
❌ Refunds will not be issued for:
Primary entries (the first dog entered by a handler), or
Any additional dogs entered with a different handler, as those entries remain fully eligible.
Withdrawing a primary entry after the event closing date, particularly when ample time and resources were made available to clarify rules, is not grounds for a refund and does not reflect the level of sportsmanship we strive to uphold within our community.
If you need assistance with your entry or are considering a withdrawal of a second FEO dog, please contact the trial host directly to explore your options.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has approached this situation with patience, understanding, and a shared commitment to fair play. These events are made possible by the strength and integrity of our community, and we are proud to see that reflected—even in challenging moments.
With appreciation,
North American Sport Dog Association (NASDA)
