A Supervised Apprentice may judge under direct or indirect supervision from an approved Judge of Record.

The appropriate level of supervision may depend on the apprentice’s experience, the assignment, and the circumstances of the event.

Direct Supervision

The Judge of Record may be physically present and closely observing the apprentice’s judging.

This can be particularly valuable during early supervised assignments or when an apprentice is developing experience with a new class or level.

Indirect Supervision

As the apprentice demonstrates competency, the Judge of Record may not need to stand beside the apprentice for every moment of every run.

The Judge of Record must still provide the supervision appropriate to the assignment and be available when needed.

The goal is progressively greater independence, not abandonment of supervision.
