One of the most important differences between Shadow and Supervised Apprentice judging is responsibility for the run itself.

The Supervised Apprentice Judge is responsible for timing and scoring.

You should be developing the ability to simultaneously:

Watch the dog + Watch the handler + Monitor the search area + Keep time + Recognize deductions + Make decisions

This is a skill.

It is also one of the reasons tandem timing and scoring during Shadow assignments is so valuable.

By the time you begin supervised judging, you should be moving from:

“Let me see if my score matches the judge’s.”

to:

“I need to determine the appropriate score.”
