A Shadow Apprentice Judge may not serve as a backup judge.

Shadow status is an educational stage. The apprentice has not yet been approved to assume independent judging responsibility.

If a Judge of Record becomes unable to judge, the host club must use an individual who is otherwise eligible to serve as the replacement or backup judge.

The presence of a Shadow Apprentice does not change that requirement.
