Handling Multiple Dogs at Championship Events
Because all Championship runs are blind, each handler may handle only one dog per sport per round.
Owners with multiple qualified dogs must assign additional handlers for any extra dogs running in the same sport and round, provided those handlers are not already handling a dog on the same course.
β Requirements for Additional Handlers:
- Must sign the event competition waivers and release of liability
- Must be in good standing with NASDA
- Must be declared prior to the start of the course
π Scheduling Considerations:
- Whenever possible, dogs from the same household or sharing transportation will be scheduled to run back-to-back to reduce wait time and ease decompression transitions.
- If an alternate handler needs to be changed, trial officials must be notified before the start of the course.
π Example:
Alex has two qualified dogs:
- Spot (Trailing & Locating I)
- Fluffy (Trailing & Locating II)
Alex may choose to handle either dog in each round of Trailing & Locating.
Alexβs friend, Jordan, may handle the second dog, as long as they meet all handler requirements.
To support smooth transitions, Spot and Fluffy will be scheduled back-to-back whenever possible.
