Den Hunt Tested (DH-T)

The test is designed to evaluate whether the dog can safely and successfully reach live quarry in a 9″ x 9″ tunnel. The dog need only reach the quarry. There is no working requirement.

Tunnel Configuration: Straight above ground Tunnel 3 – 5′ in length

Minimum Qualifying Score: 20

Title: Teams earning one qualifying score from Den Hunt Tested will earn the Den Hunt Tested (DH-T) title.

Distractions: Naturally occurring distractions may be present.

Search Area: The search area should be fenced in. This test may be held indoors or outdoors.

Performance: Time begins when the handler releases the dog. Time stops when the judge calls the mark. The call shall be “Yes.” The handler may verbally encourage the dog to enter the tunnel. Other methods of allowable encouragement include tapping the the inside of the tunnel entrance. The handler may not interfere with the dog’s ability to exit the tunnel. Pushing, shoving or physically placing the dog in the tunnel is considered overhandling and points are deducted accordingly. Whenever possible, the dog should be removed via the trapdoor at the quarry. There is no penalty for dogs exiting out the main entrance.

Dogs must run without a collar or harness.

Dogs may be rewarded in the quarry area after the judge verifies their success (“yes”).
