About NASDA Trailing & Locating

The NASDA Trailing & Locating program is designed to showcase the abilities of all dog breeds to track, trail (follow), and locate a quarry above ground. This discipline celebrates the unique skills and instincts of dogs, mirroring real-world hunting and working scenarios.

Purpose of NASDA Working Dog Trials

The primary goal is to evaluate a dog’s natural and trained abilities to:

  • Track and Trail: Follow a scent trail to locate a specific quarry.
  • Locate Quarry: Successfully pinpoint the location of the quarry once the trail is completed.
  • Work Independently: Demonstrate problem-solving skills and the ability to work away from the handler, maintaining focus and determination.
