How many trials should we offer?

For most new clubs, exhibitors are likely to compete predominantly in Level I and Level II, which typically results in faster run times. Offering a concurrent trial format can further streamline the event, making three trials per day an excellent choice for first-time events. This format allows many exhibitors to achieve their Level I titles in a single day and move up to Level II in subsequent trials. Additionally, it can boost overall entries, helping to offset the costs of hosting the event and providing a positive experience for both participants and the host club.
In regions where a significant number of exhibitors are expected to compete in Level III or higher, we recommend hosting two trials per day or limiting the number of Level III runs at your first event. Level III, Master Champion (MCH), and Grand Champion (GCH) runs require more resources and take longer to complete, which can reduce the availability of runs for lower-level competitors.
For clubs considering offering all levels across three trials in a single day, it is essential to ensure you have sufficient judges, search areas, and resources to handle the increased demand. Additionally, clubs must remember that judges are limited to 8 hours of work per day, including course setup, trial briefings, and judging time. Careful planning and adherence to this time limit will help maintain the quality of the event and provide a positive experience for judges, participants, and the host club.
